Despite heavy rain and a midge-infested Ardentinny beach, stalwart supporters of Argyll Against Trident (AAT) turned out for a 4th July Peace Picnic. AAT Convenor, Rob Bray explained the group’s rationale and young and older alike enjoyed a fabulous picnic, the centre piece of which was a ‘Bairns not Bombs’ chocolate cake donated by The Chocolate Tree.
Osprey spotted over Loch Long
Bowlers at Ardentinny Bowling Club were entertained earlier this week with the sight of a diving Osprey over Loch Long.
Fortunately Cowal visitor Cliff Carson (who was on the look-out for otters in the area) had his camera on hand and captured these excellent images of the osprey swoop. However, the dive was unsuccessful with the bird failing to catch its underwater prey.
If anyone is aware of any otter sightings in the Ardentinny area, please let us know and we will pass it on to Cliff.

Ardentinny D-Day Memorial plaque unveiled
On 6th June 2015 Tony Rodaway, nephew of D-Day veteran Billy Rodaway, travelled to the site of HMS Armadillo in Ardentinny to unveil a memorial plaque dedicated to Harry Smallman, Ken Oakley and all Royal Navy Commandos who participated in the planning and execution of the D-Day landings in 1944. The short ceremony and memorial plaque also paid tribute to Seaman William (Billy) Rodaway and Bob Bull and the crew of HMS Prins Albert with whom they served.
The plaque will be incorporated within the commando memorial cairn at Shepherd’s Point shortly.

Onshore Renewables Consultation Result
Following Argyll and Bute Council’s consultation on its framework for community benefits from onshore renewables, a summary of the responses is available on the Council’s website at www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/sites/default/files/consultation_responses.pdf.
As a result of this it has produced ‘Argyll and Bute Guidance for Community Benefits from Onshore Renewables‘.
Local Development Plan Deadline for Representations
Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park is currently accepting representations (formal comment) on its proposed local development plan, with a deadline of 29 June 2015. The documents are available on the Park’s consultation website www.ourlivepark.com; in local libraries and at their offices in Callander and Balloch.
Your comments should state what changes you would like made and why; or whether you support a particular policy or site.
