The leading article in this weeks Dunoon Observer has thrown a bit more light on the ammunition found near Ardentinny last week. New Village Hall Committee Appointed
At the EGM held in the hall on 11 May 2010, a new committee of seven members was elected with Margaret Emmett as Chair; Pauline Gordon – Treasurer; Marian Norris – Minute Secretary and Vicky Fairley – correspondence secretary. Jo Wilkinson, Margaret Greenhalgh and Jimmy Gordon complete the committee.
It was also proposed and agreed by all that the financial year be changed to run from January 1st to December, 31st.
It’s time to get ready for the Ardentinny Flower & Craft Show 2010
It’s time again to raise your radishes and pamper your peppers for Ardentinny’s Flower & Craft Show. This very popular annual event takes place on Saturday August 21 in the Village Hall.

Admission is £1.50 (including tea/coffee). Children under 16 are admitted free.

– Hall will open on Friday 20 August from 19:00 – 20:00 and on Saturday 21 August from 08:00 – 10:00 to place entries.
– No entries after 10:00.
– Judging will commence at 10:45 prompt.
– Labels on items must be securely attached.
– Items not for sale at end of show to be labelled as such.
– Donations for the tombola stall gratefully received.
– Each exhibitor – one entry per exhibit.
– The prize-giving will follow opening.
– All winners receive a trophy.
– Auction of produce and raffle at approx. 16:00.
– The judge’s decision is final.
Results of Walled Garden Survey
On the instructions of Ardentinny Community Council, the Walled Garden Working Group organised a village survey to ascertain whether or not the majority of the community were in favour of a community purchase of the garden. These are the results.
95 responses were received from residents on the Electoral Roll, of these, 3 were filled in by the ‘surveyor’ when given the verbal response ‘don’t know’. As these may not count, we are going with a working total of 92 responses.
There were also 8 responses from residents who are not on the Electoral Roll.
Of the 92 ‘countable’ responses, 21 are against, with one abstention, and 70 are in favour. Therefore, there is a clear steer from residents that they would like to see the community acquire the Walled Garden.
Of the 70 in favour, 47 said they would be willing to assist in its maintenance.
Suggestions for its use are many and varied but the most popular were allotments (37) and a conservation/communal/formal garden (36), or, a combination of the two.

There is some obvious overlap with the above suggestions and possibly some less obvious. It would be the task of the architect/s of the Community Walled Garden Business Plan, with perhaps further consultation with ‘Friends of the Walled Garden’ once a sketch plan was designed, to try and incorporate the wishes of the community in as beneficial and viable a way possible.
The Pine Marten
Dougie Menzies of Ardenfield was quick with his camera this week capturing this excellent shot of a hungry Pine Marten at the squirrel food. Iona Lister who runs an excellent website dedicated to Pine Martens informs us that she thinks it’s unusual for a Pine Marten to be moving around in open space during daylight, therefore it may be feeding young ones or else possibly there are few predators locally. Any Pine Marten experts out there who would like to comment?
