Ardentinny Community Council: Vacancy By-Election

Following last year’s Community Council elections, Argyll & Bute Council is holding a By-Election on 28 October to fill existing vacancies. Ardentinny Community Council has one vacancy. If you would like to contribute to the Ardentinny community, you can download information and a nomination pack here. Packs are also available on the village notice board. Nomination papers need to be lodged by hand no later than 4.00pm on Thursday 16 September, 2010.

Ardentinny’s Community Council meeting on Tuesday, 1st June covered a wide range of issues from updates on the roads, the caravan park, the potential community purchase of the walled garden; the National Park’s housing development proposals and the proposed forestry road in to Midge Lane to reports on the Carrick Castle walk and reception by Lochgoilhead Community Council and the work that resident Fraser Harding is and will be doing with Strone School on heightening awareness re the responsibilities of dog ownership.

Gordon Donaldson of the Forestry Commission arrived to give the presentation that Stuart Chalmers did not manage to give at the previous meeting. However, the Community Council were unaware that he was coming and so, given the already long agenda and the fact that it had not been publicised, this was postponed till the next meeting which will take place on Tuesday 3rd August.

Minutes of the meeting will be posted here in due course.

Ardentinny to Carrick Castle walk

The Ardentinny walkers at Carrick Castle

At the invitation of the Lochgoilhead Community Council, 29 intrepid walkers from Ardentinny walked the 7-mile route from the village to Carrick Castle on Sunday 9 May to celebrate the opening of the new forest path.

On arrival, they were treated regally to a champagne reception at Carrick Castle and then transported to Lochgoilhead for lunch in a local hotel. There Leslie Cuthbertson on behalf of the Lochgolihead community, thanked them for their participation as well as Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park for the major funding as well as Argyll & Islands Leader for the balance of the funding. Leslie went on to thank landowners Duncan McPhail and Donald Ferguson for their cooperation in allowing the use of parts of their land for the path, as well as Carrick Castle Amenities for organising the welcome reception.

In turn, Ardentinny Community Council Convener, Val Kennedy thanked the hosts for their kind hospitality and invited a reciprocal visit later in the year. It is now thought that this will take place in September with a barbecue and ceilidh after the walk.

Walled Garden Working Group created at Community Council AGM

Ardentinny Community Council held its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 6th April. Council Convener and Meeting Chair, Val Kennedy, declared this past year as being the busiest she had ever known for the Community Council. In her report, she outlined the main issues that had occupied them over the year, i.e.,

- the National Park’s Local Plan consultations and the Working Group’s efforts on that subject.
- the restoration of Baron MacInturner’s Cairn
- plans to design Coronation Wood as an attractive spot for residents and visitors.
- research in to the possibility of introducing a small hydro power scheme at the back of the village

The committee also reported that it had registered interest in the potential purchase by the community of the Walled Garden and it was decided that a separate Working Group be set up first, to look in to whether or not the village would support such a purchase and, if so, to take this project forward. Several committee members and attendees volunteered to form this Working Group

The meeting was due to be followed by a presentation by Stuart Chalmers of the Forestry Commission on ‘Forests for People’. However, Mr. Chalmers failed to arrive.

The next Community Council meeting will take place on Tuesday 1 June, in the Village Hall.
